If you are looking for a mind-body approach to wellness, Sharon is your maestro. Her extraordinary passion for dance, health and fitness is stronger than ever after thirty years of teaching and coaching. Her business, Fitness After Forty, specializes in consulting with mature women while her unique classes merge classical dance technique with aerobic conditioning as well as principles developed from the work of Joseph Pilates.
Sharon was a dancer, teacher and choreographer for many years prior to becoming a certified personal trainer and group fitness instructor. She majored in Theatre Arts in college, was choreographer for the Southern Shakespeare Repertory Theatre @ the Ring Theatre, University of Miami and performed with both the Miami Ballet Company and the Euterpeans Civic Light Opera. She was a teacher, choreographer and production director at The Ballet School in Melbourne, Florida and, later, at the Foster City Dance Theatre School in the San Francisco Bay Area.
In addition to teaching master classes and a full spectrum of traditional group fitness and aqua classes, Sharon has developed special curricula such as her Dance for Health series. She is co-developer of Music, Movement and Writing offered through Stanford Universitys Continuing Studies Program.
In thirty years of teaching and working with women of all ages, Sharon has first hand knowledge of the tremendous impact of body image on a womans decision to pursue a particular health and fitness program. She is a strong advocate of the process rather than the goal oriented approach to wellness. Her objective is to help women accept and feel comfortable in their bodies "as is" and to lead healthy, active lives. She also enjoys working with special populations requiring modifications to mainstream fitness programming. |
